Preventative
As a county we spend billions on reactionary services, mental health services when you are in crisis, offending behaviour programmes once you have committed a crime or are in prison and substance abuse support once you are an addict.......... However surely it would be better to prevent these issues from reaching crisis!
We are passionate about education, support and guidance for all....not once you have a severe problem but for anyone at any time.
We aim to focus on the thinking behind the behaviour rather than the behaviour itself. Many people commit crimes, abuse substances/alcohol, get involved in county lines/gangs, carry knives, have mental health problems...........but why? We help people consider the reasoning behind these actions not just the consequences of these choices.
Sensory stimulation can engage different areas of the brain, helping people to absorb and retain information thus better meeting the needs of the individuals whilst they are taking on board new information. It can help develop peoples visual processing abilities as well as their fine & gross motor skills.
Sensory environments can be highly absorbing, providing a moment of comfort & calm for overactive & distressed individuals & helping inactive individuals to feel better engaged. This improves focus and can engage people more than standard information sharing.
We believe strongly in the power of truly immersive, multi-sensory experiences, that make it impossible to sleep through education. By appealing to all the senses (including the cognitive engagement that interactively entails) the experiences will create a more powerful & lasting memory and so be more effective in aspiring action in the future. When you feel immersed or fully involved in something you relate an emotion to that event/situation/activity, this makes it a much more impacting experience.
We believe in client centered learning, to be able to achieve this, the size of a group is very important to us. It gives more opportunities for communication between facilitator and the client as well as amongst the group. Small groups allow for more opportunity to ask more challenging questions, clients have time to speak and contribute in many varied ways, clients get a chance to perform different roles within our activities and group work, extra space means it’s easier to absorb the surroundings and for our environment to be more effective.
Add in a coaching facilitation style and a group can become a community with shared aims, leading to a positive ethos, creating a good buzz.
We have a Resilience community on Facebook! Mental health support, Tips, Strategies, Guidance and Education, all to help you strengthen your Resilience.
